I tested on Alpha and you still lose it :(

As much as I don’t like this, it’s the axact thing I think is needed. The fact I don’t like it is what makes me think it’s essential.

I think back to a kid and finding cheat mode in old games and thinking it was great, but in reality it spoils the game. Something you only realise when you are older.

I liked that it made it *just* possible to do a kill. (I like GDI stopped 1:Kill policies)

I don’t like that 360 on hand makes it too easy to retal.

I think dropping turns on hand would work but maybe do 240(420) or something? (Ie same number of maxed turns but can’t play so many at once. Perhaps give 2 stored turns per turn back?

Or going to the extreme allow eg 120(600) so it’s more like the other servers in terms of how much you can do in a single “day” of turns and give stored turns back 5 at a time?

You still don’t lose turns (no more than before).

Getting 6 turns per turn (1 + up to 5 stored) would be fast like it would be in line with the pace of an express server but without some of the more extreme effects of a single country being able to play too many turns all at once?

I wasn't grabbing strategically, more to create a little action.

I've sucked up some big retals and fair play, they are justified, all in good sport :)

Back in the day you used to have to try balance defence or you risked top-feeds from players that weren't grabbing smartly (as I am demonstrating now!). As much is it was annoying to get grabbed it was usually OK cos you got more back in the retal. The problems came when people double tapped or RoR. Thats not very sporting in my book, and I think the way GDI works is perfect for deterring that kind of thing :)

What I am seeing now though is what's going on in Alliance. People are running little to no defense, and just expecting to free ride. That should be a risky bet, maybe when bots tart attacking that will shake things up, in the meantime maybe the prospect of a wildcard player that grabs humans will do the job. I'm trying not to hit anyone more than once (thats asking for war!) and you all got a good chance to retal (especially as CI is getting hammered this set so I can't even grow properly!)

There are a bunch of players I have passed up on due to them having defence, I even messaged them to praise them that they dodged a grab because of it.

Maybe nothing will change, but its a bit of spice eh?

Hmm would have been interesting to run my bots at that time see how they did, last time I ran was October 2019.

I changed the code so much that I think it would be difficult to remerge from qzjul's master

Although, having had a quick look over, it looks like he mostly added things in different places as I had refactored out a lot of my code for "bot strategy"

They all inherited from a core Strategy class that established wether it was possible to do something, whether they should do it, and then decided if they would do it, then did it!

Each Strat effectively became setting a land goal, build goals and tech goals then running a turn based on logic ie for Rainbow it was:

Other strats did/didn't do some of those steps (e.g an indy wouldn't sell food, a techer would tech when it was right)

They all prioritiesed their goals, stocked/destocked when the time was right,& bought mil & tech sensibly according to their priorities.

I also had a FFO, so that their was an oil market and they would stock oil for destock too (without land dropping).

As much as I love easy bot farming being able to hit multiple targets with <10k turrets, at this stage in the set that seems weird (unless i'm not remembering right). It used to be that you'd get a few easy hits out of the gate but after that they seemed to grow so you could generally just about keep up with hitting them (especially when they had D allies!)

That makes me feel like something has changed where they aren't buying as much stuff as they used to? Do they need to buy more?

or, maybe add more bots to increase demand? (or indirectly through players growing bigger and buying more tech/military to grow?)

I hacked up some bot code a few years back that consistently took the majority of t10 on the AI server ;)

I also don't remember having allies before, but now that we do then that line is getting blurrier. What if your D ally is getting beat up?

That isn't to say I won't throw all that out the window to retal/war when necessary :)

Everyone says things like farming bots is no fun, no skill needed, etc

Thats true to some extent (80/20 rule). Getting t10 is easy enough with zero effort bot grabbing and no fancy stuff, and that's mild fun for old timers short on time e.g me.

When I used to play a few years back some people seemed to have beef and would grab you every set, regardless of defence, so that wasn't the solution. There was no point putting time in. So I just started playing under my name and spending no effort on a country so people could grab me if they wanted, and I would just retal. That way I can't be trolled with grabs. If I manage to get through a set without being hit then I might get a lucky finish, if not then another reset will be along shortly :)
