You have gotten lazy. Your cute pudgy plumpness has morphed into a horridly obese, fatberg inducing, sweaty and slovenly carcass. Spittle runs down your grotesque chins as you gorge yourselves until distended, the only thing that's important is how efficiently you can consume more and more and more.

Looking around theres a range of fatness, ranging from obese fascists reminiscent of Kim Jong and Donald, through to corpulent tyrant slobs who more closely resemble Jabba.

The Lean Crossfit Nations declare war on fat. Fat will be captured and destroyed. What will remain will be 6-pack abs, buns of steel and biceps you can take to the shooting range.

TLDR: Large countries with low NW/land ratio are being trimmed of some land.

I remember:
The first big retal I failed, and how that made the next one so much more exciting.
Wanting badly to try again and the FA talking me out of it
Taking a laptop on an overseas work trip just so I could stonewall
Wanting desperately to be a colour in RD (something about the mystery made y'all so badass)
The first (?) three-word-name bots
Building some sort of earth simulator in excel to optimise a casher startup
SC4/essey/bluefang
Hearing about land-trading and working out how to optimise it

Do they work like D/O allies? i.e. send 1/4 of their total number of spies, but cannot more than double your total spy number.

or do they work differently?

If you explore, the extra acres produce stuff for the rest of the set.
If you cash, then you get that just once.

So Viceroy is correct - you need to factor in the turns remaining when doing the calculation.

You'll get further by maximising the production of your country - basically (built acres x stuff created per acre).

Spoiler: More built acres is better. Work out how to get (and keep) more built acres than the other guys, and you will do well.

This set started out badly for me, with a planned ~700 turn tech start and god awful tech prices (how else does one start as a farmer or oiler on this server?). I then tossed up between farmer and oiler, and chose oiler.

It might not have been the right choice - hard to tell as both oil and food have been strong.

However, just as I got going with some market plays, I was RORed on a couple of retals. Both retals I did were within 48 hours, but neither of the countries could accept that this could happen to them, and ROR'd me. One justification was simply "you took too much on that retal so I'm going to hit you again". Both countries seemed to think that I'd be happy to walk away after an "even trade", even though their poor grabbing decisions had cost me many acres that required rebuilding.

Since then I've been having more fun warring than I was going to have as a netting oiler. I'm now fairly confident that neither "Victory shall be mine" or "Delphinus" will finish in the top 50, which I count as job done!

To be fair, I think the main purpose of the change was to improve cashers as a war strat. Cashers have always lost production after losing a lot of civs, so this change produced a more level playing field so that other strats also lost production under these circumstances.

It really hurts in express where you can eat 100+ GSs.

Vic: Production is tied to the ratio of current population / maximum population. So you can increase production by either increasing your current population (i.e. playing turns), or by decreasing maximum population. So teching/buying Residential tech is a bad idea because it increases max pop. Other silly things are grabbing land or decreasing tax rate.

bahahaahha I don't visit AT that often, just checked in to see WTF was happening with war techs.

This thread started out so promising (thanks Vic!) and then devolved so quickly...

I've just been having fun these last couple sets, and I'm enjoying the game immensely. But I'm not going to put in the time needed to take a win, and I still make mistakes (love that feeling in Primary after the first day's grabbing, when you remember that you didn't join GDI earlier to save a miniscule amount of expenses....).

Best post of the thread:

I agree with both of you. However I treat Team a bit like a solo server. Race to ~6k acres and spend a couple of days teching while prices are ~$3000.

The cash generated from that can either be used to grab and jump out of range. Alternately I can have some fun with the markets! Or both. I'm still in the top few to reach 12k acres.

This week, I've been playing with Indy tech in Primary; and bushels in Team. It might not be the optimal strat for final NW, but it's great fun :)

This set my demo techer has 140 CS, although 180 probably would have been better. But I'm stockpiling already on ~12k acres.

Next set I might try 260 CS and grab to 25k acres.

people tell me that the ideal BPT is SQRT(goal land/4).

Military costs upkeep, so a commie that keeps lots of military on hand loses cash each turn.

I calculated it out once. Let's say you have one jet, and there are 1000 turns left in the set.

You are better to sell that jet for $100 and buy a jet later for $180, rather than holding the jet for 1000 turns and paying upkeep.

I think the breakeven point is around 500 turns - you're better off keeping the jet for 500 turns, if prices are around $100.

Tyranny also has 1-turn attacks and no BPT deficit. So you can build faster and grab more often, as long as you can find enough targets to hit.

However, I find on solo servers that I often get too fat as a tyranny (indy or farmer), spend lots of turns building CSs, and get outnetted by Commies in the early game.

Theoretically a really fat tyranny farmer should own, but I'm yet to find the right balance between gaining land and gaining NW.

What TDA101 says is the main reason. With the special GDI on Express, there's no reason for a top country to buy troops and tanks, as long as they grab sensibly.

Reselling turrets is a crappy way to make a profit.

But normal recalling costs 3 turns, which isn't free for a techer. So a demo does have an advantage there.

However, there would be very few situations where you would want to buy your own goods from the market as a Demo.

Some strategies benefit from selling goods twice per day. Indies and techers can only sell 25% of their goods in a single sale (35% for indies, and more in the Express server). So by logging in twice a day to sell, these strategies can make lots more cash, which can be important at time to increase land growth.

On the Team server, the PS return time is 10h, so it's quite viable to log in twice a day and make PS attacks. Again, this will greatly increase the rate of land growth.

Outside of that, the 18-hour bonus turns provide a 16% increase in productivity, which is hard to match with any other login strategy. And if you use an 18-18-12 login pattern, you can even sleep at normal times!

The in game market history is an awesome tool to see when there are peaks for demand in certain goods, which presumably correspond to times when lots of people play (e.g. Evening in North America.)

By looking at tech purchases, I can workout timed when lots of casher are online, although this is a bit uncertain due to standing orders.

Surprisingly, the times when lots of casher play isn't the same as when lots of Indies play.

My question is this: how can I work out when the most techers are online?

Firstly, let me check that selling goods on the market is First On, First Off.

So if Country A sells bushels at $35, and then Country B sells bushels for $35, then Country A's bushels will sell first.

Is that correct?

Secondly, how are standing orders filled. Let's say we have 4 countries:

Country A places a standing order for 1m bushels at $35 or less
Then, Country B places a standing order for 1m bushels at $34 or less <-- note the lower price
Then, Country C places a standing order for 1m bushels at $33 or less
Then, Country D places a standing order for 1m bushels at $34 or less

If 3m bushels comes onto the market at $32, what happens?
Is the earliest appropriate SO filled first (Country A)?
Is the closest dollar value SO filled first (Country C)?
